Roman Forum

The Roman Forum also called as Forum Romanum; this was the seat of government and also the center of commerce and religion in the Ancient Rome, this is basically where the Roman civilization began. This is between the Colosseum and the Piazza Venezia, this has been one of the most important archeological and historical sites in the world. This is the venue of mostly the activities that has been held during those times such meetings of the speakers, politics, criminal trials and many more. Around the Forum, you can also find some shops, markets and restaurants in those times. This has been a place for the Romans to hold their celebrations.

Inside the Forum you will find the Arch of Titus, the Arch of Septimius Severius, the Temple of Saturn, the Basilica Maxentius, the Temple of Antoninus and Faustina, the Temple of Venus and Roma, the Temple of Castor and Pollux, the Temple of Divus Romulus, The Column of Phocas and The Curia, which is the Senate House. The Basilica of Mazentius is the largest building in this complex and the Temple of Venus and Roma on the other hand is the largest temple in Rome and the temple was in honor of the goddesses that is Venus and Roma.

During the Medieval Times, the Forum has been abandoned and became a cattle field and a grazing area. The ruins of the Forum were also dismantled and the stones of the Forum were being quarried. It was in the 18th and 19th century that they have given the Forum enough importance to be restored and preserved in its original state.

The Roman Forum is open from Sundays to Fridays at nine in the morning until six in the evening. They are not close for any holidays, so you can go and visit the Roman Forum except for Saturdays.
